As summer transitions to fall and school is back in full swing, families are adjusting to the familiar rhythm of kids being in the classroom. But once the school buses roll around for drop-off, what’s next?

Being intentional about how your children spend their post-school hours can have a significant effect on their development and well-being. At Life Time, there are options for kids to keep learning, engage in healthy behaviors, and have fun. Plus, as a parent, it gives you time to spend at the club prioritizing your own well-being.

“When your kids are at Life Time, they’re being taken care of,” says Glory Casillas, kids leader at Life Time in Centennial, Colo., who has worked on the Life Time Kids team for the past eight years (and has been bringing her two daughters to Life Time for nearly 11 years). Her youngest is now 10 years old and “she’s done it all,” according to Casillas, starting from the infant room to structured play in the Kids Academy. “For my family, Life Time is more than just a club, it’s a second home.

“My family has a routine at Life Time,” she explains. “On Mondays, we practice soccer. On Wednesdays, we rock climb. Then on Fridays, we go to the pool together. It feels so special as a family to close out our days here. And you can do something different every day, so your kids want to keep coming back.”

Both parents and kids can benefit from disconnecting from the fatigue of having to plan at the end of the day, according to Casillas. “Plus, Life Time can be cheaper than a babysitter — as a member, you can get up to two and a half hours of drop-in care every single day.”

To help you easily plan your after-school time so you can form your family’s routine, we rounded up a list of all the activities your kiddos can do in the afternoons and evenings at Life Time.

1. Kids Academy Drop-In Play and Classes

The Kids Academy provides educational and movement-focused activities for kids ages three months through 12 years old (ages may vary based on club location), all in a safe and secure setting with trained team members. Often centered on fun weekly themes, these activities are designed to give kids the freedom to explore new ideas and gain hands-on experiences. (Learn more: “Fun at the Life Time Kids Academy: A Sneak Peek.”)

“There is no reservation needed for non-infant drop-in play at the Kids Academy, so it’s a great option for parents needing something last minute to keep their kids entertained and engaged,” says Casillas.

Drop-In Classes are held all day for kids to join, whenever their parents or caregivers bring them. (Although not required, if you are able to plan in advance, reservations are preferred for classes when possible.) There are different options for ages 3 to 11 years, and the classes are varied, including tumbling, stretching, dancing, arts and crafts, sports, yoga, S.T.E.A.M., interactive nutrition games, and more. There is also toddler programming for 1- to 2-year-olds.

2. Kids Studio Classes

Kids often like to do the same things their parents do, and the Kids Studio Classes can be a fun introduction to the Life Time studio classes you know and love. Kids between the ages of 5 and 13 (grouped appropriately by development) can try the SOL yoga, Warrior Sculpt, SHRED, and Barre formats that are designed specifically for them.

Some clubs also intentionally schedule Kids Studio Classes to match the adult group classes being offered — you may see Danze Jam (kids’ Zumba) happening at the same time as adult Zumba, for instance. Clubs may also offer Grown-Up and Me Classes, where kids get to attend fitness classes with their parents. “It’s something fun that kids and parents can do and bond over together,” notes Casillas.

3. Swim Lessons, Swim Team, or Family Swim

Improving the swimming skills of your children can be a year-round initiative. Whether your kids are at the stage of learning how to swim or have the desire to improve their stroke and be more competitive, Life Time has instructors and programs to suit all levels and abilities.

Begin with Intro to Splash swim lessons (ages 3 months to 2 years) to get kids comfortable in the water with you before transitioning them to be on their own in swim lessons (ages 2 years and older). (Learn more: “Everything You Need to Know About Life Time Swim Lessons.”)

As your child grows, sign them up for swim clinics for specialized training (ages 5 to 12 years) or for competition by joining the swim team (based on your child’s ability, typically ages 5 to 18).

“Families can also come during Family Swim hours to work on water skills together or simply have fun playing games in the pool,” says Casillas.

4. Open Gym

During Open Gym hours, the world — or in this case, the court! — is their oyster. Kids can play familiar basketball favorites like around the world, HORSE, or lightning, challenge family members to a friendly game, or just run around to burn energy. Kids under 12 years old must have a parent or adult supervisor who is present.

5. Life Time Basketball

Kids can’t get enough of Open Gym time on the basketball court? Life Time’s basketball programming works with kids of all ages and skill levels on shooting, dribbling, teamwork, and other abilities necessary to fine-tune their hooping abilities. Basketball can be a great way to strengthen your kids’ motor and social skills all while having fun playing.

6. Junior Tennis

Life Time’s SMART tennis progressive programming focuses on fun and athleticism first, and tennis skills second. Kids start playing with others right away, learning this lifelong sport as they go and advancing to levels appropriate for their age and development.

7. Junior Pickleball

If you’ve heard all about the appeal of pickleball, it’s likely your kids know about this popular sport too. Pickleball is a sport that anyone at any age can pick up — kids included!

Junior Pickleball is an offering for Junior Members who are interested in getting involved with the sport and growing their abilities. This play-based programming emphasizes teaching young athletes to take joy in the game, while also improving their technical and tactical skills. (Learn More: “What Is Junior Pickleball Programming at Life Time?”)

8. Pickleball or Tennis Open Court Time

Want to engage in some family-friendly competition? Reserve a court and play against your kids in a round of pickleball or try singles or doubles tennis as a family. For kids, these moments of fun shared with their loved ones can have a positive impact. “There’s nothing better than seeing parents come in with their pickleball paddles and seeing the kids ready to go with their own paddles,” says Casillas.

9. Rock Wall

Challenge your child’s body and mind by encouraging them to climb to new heights as they explore routes on the rock wall. Only kids ages 5 and up can climb; a parent must be present to supervise kids ages 5 to 11 years old.

Note: Child care offerings, kids’ activities, and amenities may vary by age and club location.

“Mom, dad: What are we doing today? I’m bored!”

If you’re a parent, the chances are good you’ve heard your kids say this on more than one occasion. It’s also likely that you only have so much time and capacity to keep them entertained all day. Life Time can be your back-up.

Each week, there are new events at the club to keep your kids engaged in healthy fun for several hours. Some are just for kids, giving parents the opportunity to leave or stay at and use the club, while others are designed for the whole family to take part in together.

“Kids and families are an important part of the Life Time community,” says Art Johnson, senior manager of events and sponsorship marketing at Life Time. “We host unique events throughout the year to bring value to our members while also helping them make lasting family memories.”

Avoid those in-the-moment panics of, What should we do?! by looking to this round up of kids and family events to help fill your calendar July through October.

The warmer months are upon us, and for many people with children, summer schedules are filling up. Before the season of sun and freedom disappears — and before you can even begin to wonder where it has gone — Life Time is here to help you plan for some regular you time while your kids learn, play, and are entertained.

Every week, Life Time Kids features Parents Night Out events, where your kids can hang out with others their age while taking part in games and activities related to that evening’s theme. There are Tween Takeover events held monthly, too.

“We use Parents Night Out events for much-needed date nights,” says Abby Banks, member at Life Time in Edina, Minn. “Between three kids in numerous activities, work, and other life obligations, it’s a great chance for my husband and I to reconnect. We know our kids are having the best time and being well taken care of at Life Time.”

Life Time families have even become friends thanks to Parents Night Out events. “We also use these nights to meet up with other Life Time parents,” says Banks. “We’ve developed such an amazing community here!”

Common FAQs About Kids Events

Shelly Forsberg, director of kids and aquatics at Life Time, shares answers to commonly asked questions from parents.

Life Time | What can I expect if I sign my child up for a Life Time Kids event?

Shelly Forsberg | Each event has a theme, and we build the curriculum around that so there are always fun, new activities for kids to take part in. There is a new theme each week to help accommodate family schedules and to allow for a greater chance for every child to attend. Kids’ events occur every Saturday. Depending on the club, there may also be additional events on Fridays.

Regardless of the theme, every curriculum follows an intentionally designed format: There’s always arts and crafts time, a STEAM project, a gym game or a sports activity — or some combination of those. Then, we always serve dinner, which is usually pizza and juice.

Events typically last two to three hours and can accommodate kids ages 4 to 12 years old (ages may vary by club based on state requirements). Tween Takeover events are generally for kids ages 9 to 13 years old, though that may vary by club as well.

Our Life Time Kids team members go through training before being entrusted with your kids. This training includes CPR training, a child-development course, and a classroom-management course to ensure your kids are in the safest hands.

LT | Do parents need to stay at the club while their child is attending an event?

SF | No. Parents can leave the club or stay on site. Most often, we see parents using this time in the club, whether that be to take a fitness class, use the space and machines on the workout floor, relax in the sauna or steam room, grab a bite to eat in the LifeCafe, or hit the pickleball court with friends.

LT | Is there a cost to these events? And do you have to be a Life Time member to participate?

SF | All Kids events are included at no cost in Junior Memberships. Your child does need to be on a Life Time Junior Membership to attend the events.

LT | How do I sign my child up for an event?

SF | Reservations can be made up to 30 days prior to each event and registration closes five hours before the event begins. Each participant is allowed to reserve one event per week. View the schedule on my.lifetime.life or in the Life Time app by clicking “View All Events” and under “Activity,” filtering by “Kids.” (We require all children attending events to be fully potty trained.)

If your child is registered but you need to cancel, we ask that you please do so at least five hours prior to the event to open up the spot for someone else; if you neglect to cancel at all or less than five hours prior, there will be a $25 no-show fee. If you were on a waitlist and moved to an available spot less than 24 hours prior to the start of the event, you will not be penalized if you miss the event.

Please arrive on time to the event; if you arrive more than 15 minutes after the start time, your child’s spot may be forfeited and offered to someone on the waitlist. A photo ID is required at pickup, and late pickups will result in a fee.

Families join Life Time for a myriad of reasons: Maybe the kids are heading back to school and everyone is looking to add some more structure to their routine. Or perhaps they’re bracing for winter and they want a go-to indoor space where they can stay active. Or possibly the parents are pursuing health goals and want to do that somewhere their kids can engage in healthy activities too.

No matter the reason, members share that they find numerous options for activities for every age and stage of their family at the club. Still, it can be helpful to hear from others about how they choose to spend their time to make sure you’re taking advantage of all your membership has to offer.

We spoke with the Anderson family, who joined Life Time in White Bear Lake, Minn., in summer 2024, about how they’re maximizing their family membership.

anderson family

Meet: Nicole Anderson and her husband, Lars, and their three children: Cruz, 3; Josie, 2; and Rocco, 6 months.

Life Time | Why did your family join Life Time?

Nicole Anderson | We joined Life Time over the summer for a variety of reasons. I wanted to get back into working out after having our third baby, and we had to choose somewhere that also offered childcare for our kids.

My husband and I were also looking for a single place that had all the offerings we desired. Lars is a big sauna and steam-room guy, and we appreciate having locker-room amenities. I like group fitness, so having classes and good instructors was important to me. Overall, we wanted to find a membership that would meet all our interests and needs.

Lars Anderson | For Nicole, it seemed like the lowest barrier of entry to working out for her was to be able to bring the kids during the day and not have to set up separate childcare. Her body has been dedicated to the kids over the last three-and-a-half years, and she deserves this for herself — to be able to go to classes, drop the kids off at the Kids Academy, and get a little break during the day. That time is really healthy for her.

LT | How do you use Life Time as a family?

NA | Sometimes we go as a family of five, other times I’ll go with just the kids, or Lars will head to the club by himself in the evenings too — whoever is free at the time and wants to join, goes. We’ve also used Life Time a few times as our “date night” spot. I anticipate our family using the club even more in the winter when the weather isn’t as nice.

We hit up the LifeCafe for a good amount for meals — it’s a fun treat for the whole family after using the club. And we just signed up to use our complimentary swim lessons for the kids that we got as new members. We’re excited for them to get into swimming this fall!

LT | Can you walk us through your perfect day at Life Time?

NA | That’s a great question because I’ve been testing the waters as a newer member. I used my complimentary training session upon joining and that was super helpful because I was able to ask the trainer for help creating a workout routine that I can do on the fitness floor when I drop my kids off at the Kids Academy.

She set me up with a circuit workout, and I’ve honestly done it about 15 times already. I love it. I’m also a big Warrior Sculpt girl. I’ve tried two different barre classes and I’m trying a SHRED class next week.

My ideal club visit right now would consist of a Warrior Sculpt class and then spending time in the sauna and steam room afterward to relax. Then, I’d swing by the LifeCafe for either a meal (the Chipotle Chicken Quesadilla, substituted with steak, has been my favorite!) or a shake on the way out (my go-to has been the Vegan PB&B).

LA | I typically head to the club in the evenings once our kids are already in bed. I shoot hoops for about 15 minutes and then work out on the fitness floor, primarily using the free weights. After that, I use the sauna and steam room. On my way out, I grab the Founder Shake 2.0 from the LifeCafe.

LT | What do you and your kids think about the Kids Academy experience?

NA | All three of our kids go to the Kids Academy and love it. The two older kids, Cruz and Josie always come home with a craft that they’re pumped about or a new dance that they’ve learned. Recently, they’ve been learning how to do jumping jacks. Since we don’t send our kids to a traditional daycare, they think they’re going to see their “teachers” at the Kids Academy — our older kids get really excited to see them.

I appreciate the structure while they’re there, and the number of kids per instructor. At Life Time White Bear Lake, the instructors have been there for many years, and they seem really comfortable with the kids.

LT | Why is living a healthy way of life important to your family?

NA | It’s a self-care thing for me. When I take the time to work out, eat healthy, drink water — even if it’s prioritizing my health for an hour a day — then my whole family benefits from that. For me, this is a year of investing in myself.

LA | We feel it’s important to show our kids that mom and dad like to take care of themselves. It also gives us more patience as parents.

It’s likely no surprise that kids who develop healthy habits as they grow are more likely to stick with them for a lifetime. What may be surprising, though, is the support you can get for nurturing those behaviors with a Life Time Junior Membership.

To date, Life Time has more than 120,000 junior members who belong to its athletic country clubs. (Junior Memberships can be added for a set rate to any adult or family membership and are for kids ages 14 and under.) While there is no shortage of things for kids to do at Life Time, many parents are not aware of the ways they can maximize their kid’s membership.

Are you making the most of these offerings?

1. Child Care. Receive up to 2 hours of complimentary supervised playtime for kids ages 3 to 11 months, and up to 2.5 hours for kids ages 1 to 11 years at the Kids Academy while you work out or enjoy the club. You can use this benefit every single day! (Child care time allotment may vary by club.)

2. Kids Academy Classes. Available throughout the day for kids, these activities include dance, arts and crafts, yoga, sports, tumbling, music, and more. Classes are typically 50 minutes and available for kids ages 3 to 13.

3. Kids Studio Classes. Kids can participate in the same group fitness classes their parents love — but that are taught in a format created just for kids. Choose from SOL yoga, Warrior Sculpt, SHRED, Ringside, and Life Barre classes. Ages 5 to 8 and 9 to 13 are taught separately.

4. Unlimited Monthly Kids and Tween Events. Parents can enjoy an evening to themselves — at the club or somewhere else — with our monthly Parents Night Out and Tween Takeover events. Parents Night Out events occur weekly for kids ages 4 to 12 and feature games and activities based around that event’s theme. Tweens (ages 9 to 13) get to take over their athletic country club twice per month at Tween Takeover events.

5. Open gym and open swim. Maybe your kids enjoy shooting hoops or playing a game of pickup basketball. Perhaps they love swimming and want to practice their skills — or just splash around in the pool. Life Time offers open gym and pool times for members.

Summer vacation is here! Youngsters were no doubt thrilled the day that last school bell rang — while many parents might have felt a surge of stress about occupying the newfound free time in their kids’ schedules.

At Life Time, there’s always some way for your kids to be moving, learning, and interacting with others their age, including activities, classes, sports, events, camps, and more.

“Summer feels like freedom for kids — and it’s a prime time for them to stay active and have fun,” says Shelly Forsberg, director of kids and aquatics at Life Time. “All summer long, Life Time offers camps where kids can move their bodies, play, learn new skills, and make friends. There’s also a range of kid-friendly activities on the schedules to provide opportunities for them to spend healthy time this summer.”

Here are some options — many of which are included as part of a Junior Membership — for filling your kids’ summer calendar.

Enriching Classes

 • Kids Studio Classes. Young ones can move their bodies by taking kid-friendly versions of some of the same workout classes you enjoy, including Warrior Sculpt, Ringside, LifeBarre, SOL yoga, and SHRED. The formats are modified to fit their level with options for ages 5 to 8 and 9 to 13.
 • Kids Academy Classes. Offered throughout the day, these classes include dance, arts and crafts, yoga, sports, tumbling, junior warriors, martial arts, and more.
 • Fitness and Agility Classes. If your child is between the ages of 5 and 13, they can start taking their sports skills to the next level with these classes aimed at teaching the fundamentals of movement while increasing their athletic confidence and abilities.
 • Grown-Up and Me Classes. These weekly, family-oriented fitness classes encourage building strong bodies together. They are tailored for toddler and preschool ages, allowing young ones to explore movement with the comfort of having their parent by their side.

Spontaneous Fun

 • Drop-In Play. Enjoy the 2.5 hours of daily child care (infant care is 2 hours) included in your membership*. Weekly themes and activities are planned so kids can have fun and be engaged when they’re not attending a class.
 • Pool Time. Come during open swim hours for pool fun, whether you choose to work on swimming skills, play water games, race down the water slide, or simply splash around.
 • Open Gym. Divide the kids or family into teams for a pick-up game of basketball, line up for a ball shooting competition, or play one of these fun basketball games for two or more players.

Sports Time

 • Tennis and Pickleball. Pass out the tennis racquets or pickleball paddles and let kids practice their serves, work on court awareness, or just play these lifelong sports during open court time. Junior tennis programming is available for those who want regular practice and guidance around growing their skills.
 • Swimming. Whether you’re interested in having your kids learn how to swim or helping them improve their stroke and be more competitive, we have instructors and programs to suit all abilities. Begin with Intro to Splash swim lessons (ages 3 months to 2 years) to get them comfortable in the water with you before transitioning them to be on their own in swim lessons (ages 2 years and older). As your child grows, sign them up for swim clinics for specialized training (ages 5 to 12 years) or for competition by joining the swim team (based on child’s ability, typically ages 5 to 18).
 • Rock Wall. Challenge your child’s body and mind by encouraging them to climb to new heights as they explore new routes on the rock wall (available at select locations). A parent must be present to supervise kids ages 5 to 11 years old.
 • Ultimate Hoops. Young ballers can participate in basketball camps and training to develop their skills and engage in fun and competitive play.

Exciting Events and Camps

 • Parents Night Out. Enjoy a night alone while your kids have dinner (did someone say pizza party?!) and a blast at Life Time. Each monthly Parents Night Out features a different theme with games and activities based around it. (See what the June and July themed events will be: “Time for Summer Fun: The June, July, and August Kids’ Events at Life Time.”)
 • Tween Events. These monthly Tween Takeover events are the perfect way to combine fun and exercise with meeting new friends. Activities vary each month, but include options such as balloon foosball, ultimate Frisbee, board games, speed stacking, and other games.
 • Summer Camps. Summer Camp at Life Time is a convenient way to keep kids engaged in healthy fun all season while they’re out of school. Each week’s theme influences the types of activities kids will be doing. The exact schedule and activities vary based on your club location and child’s preferences, but typically consist of options including swimming, rock climbing, active gym games, S.T.E.A.M., team building, community connections, and dress-up days.

To learn more about specific offerings and times, you can view the daily class schedules for kids online or in the Life Time app. Reserving your child’s spot can help your family plan accordingly for a successful day at our athletic country clubs.

*Child care offerings may vary by age and club location.

For parents, having a few kid-free hours in a day can be a much-needed respite, whether they use that time for running errands, going on a date, or simply resting and relaxing.

Kids’ events at Life Time can help make this a reality. Each month, themed Parents Night Out events are offered, giving kiddos the chance to hang out with others their age while taking part in games and activities related to that evening’s theme. There are Tween Takeover events held monthly, too.

Parents simply drop off their kids and can either stay at the club for their own benefit or leave the property for the duration.

“We have taken advantage of many Parents Night Out events,” says Mindy Carney, a member at Life Time in Chesterfield, Mo., and mom of three. “I love how convenient and easy it is to sign up and have all my kids at one place participating in age-appropriate activities, hanging out with friends, and having fun.

“Having dinner served at the events so I don’t have to plan it is another great bonus,” she continues. “My husband and I have enjoyed so many more date nights, as well as had time to catch up on life. These events are easier than finding a babysitter, they’re free, and they’re fun for the kids.”

Tween Takeover

Ages: 9 to 13 years old
Length: Typically 3 hours

At Tween Takeover nights, kids rule! This time is for your tween to decide what they want to do at their athletic country club: They can play sports, create crafts, challenge one another to a board game, or participate in other fun activities. The space is theirs.

Wild Wild West

Ages: 4 to 12 years old (ages may vary by club)
Length: 3 hours

Saddle up for some time in the wild, wild west! Kids can dive into the fun of the frontier with western-themed crafts like making pipe cleaner snakes and cowboy or cowgirl hats. They’ll also participate in activities like crocodile races, a sheriff’s badge hunt, rattlesnake tag, and an “old cone road” gym game.

Summer Camp Showcase

Ages: 4 to 12 years old (ages may vary by club)
Length: 3 hours

This event is the perfect way for your kids to get a taste of what Summer Camp at Life Time could be like as they’ll spend their time sampling camp electives. This includes trying the Kids Studio Classes, Fitness & Agility classes, tapping into their creative side with arts and crafts, and challenging their minds with S.T.E.A.M. activities. These electives allow kids to build relationships with others while learning and growing — all while having fun.

Widget Workshop

Ages: 4 to 12 years old (ages may vary by club)
Length: 3 hours

Calling all engineers, inventors, and explorers! Kids are in for a night of building, creating, and inventing. They’ll build a fidget tool or ninja fidget spinner as well as create paper bag kites or thinking putty.

Yoga Rave

Ages: 4 to 12 years old (ages may vary by club)
Length: Typically 3 hours

Want your kids to rave about yoga the same way you do? This event is the perfect opportunity for them to sample the Kids Studio SOL yoga class — in a fun glow-in-the-dark yoga-party setting. Yogis will glow with the flow, wearing glow-in-the-dark bracelets on their arms and legs while an instructor guides them through the yoga sequences.

Warrior Squad Showdown

Ages: 4 to 12 years old (ages may vary by club)
Length: Typically 3 hours

Kids can unleash their inner warrior in epic obstacle courses designed to test their skills and teamwork. They’ll then let their creative juices flow with ribbon crafts, fizzy painting, and creating a DIY bouncy ball.

Retro Rewind

Ages: 4 to 12 years old (ages may vary by club)
Length: Typically 3 hours

Kids will feel like they stepped into a groovy time machine as they journey back to the days of neon leg warmers and cassette tapes. They’ll enjoy a blast from the past with classic gym games like “sharks and minnows” and “rock, paper, scissors” races. They’ll then unleash their creativity by making retro sunglasses and straw-weaving bracelets. It’s a night of fun that proves the best times are timeless!

Secret Agents

Ages: 4 to 12 years old (ages may vary by club)
Length: 3 hours

Does your kiddo love to solve mysteries? All secret agents are being called to this event to use their creativity and problem-solving skills in collaboration with their fellow agents. Kids will take part in secret agent training, secret agent tag, and a scavenger hunt. They’ll also get to test their skills at interrogation or as a spy decoder.

Ready, Set, Game On

Ages: 4 to 12 years old (ages may vary by club)
Length: 3 hours

It’s game on as kids dive into board games, minute-to-win-it challenges, and gym games such as “head, shoulders, knees, and cone” and a team memory game. The group will also build a popsicle stick puzzle.

Earth Crew

Ages: 4 to 12 years old (ages may vary by club)
Length: Typically 3 hours

Let’s celebrate our amazing planet! Kids will learn about recycling, generate kinetic energy in the gym, and discover more ways they can protect the Earth and help it thrive. Kids will make Earth murals and litter bags, while counselors will also lead themed gym games such as “stuck in the mud” and “trash war recharge.”

Ridiculous Relays

Ages: 4 to 12 years old (ages may vary by club)
Length: Typically 3 hours

Kids will have the chance to compete in a series of ridiculous games and messy challenges before partying like they’re all champions. Specific activities vary by club, but a few examples of activities include board-game relays, obstacle-course relays, don’t-drop-the-balloon games, and balloon-caterpillar relays. The relays are meant to make kids laugh — it’s all about having fun (and less about athleticism)!

Painting Party

Ages: 4 to 12 years old (ages may vary by club)
Length: Typically 3 hours

Kids will break out paint brushes and channel their inner artist at this guided painting party where they’ll create their own masterpiece.

Typically, kids use tempera paint (because it’s washable!), although some clubs may
provide watercolor paints, to paint on either cardstock or watercolor paper. They’ll be able to choose which station they wish to paint at: the freestyle station where they can paint whatever they want, the resist station where they’ll use white crayons or tape to make designs on the paper where the paint resists it, or the directed station where a counselor walks them through painting a landscape, step-by-step.

Aye Aye Captain

Ages: 4 to 12 years old (ages may vary by club)
Length: Typically 3 hours

Ahoy, mateys! We have a message in a bottle for you: Kids are invited to come be a captain while conquering gym games like “pirate gold” or “steal the treasure” and making crafts like paper plane pirate ships or a ship in a bottle. They’ll also play with slime or playdough (depending on age). Set sail for Life Time!

Mission Expedition

Ages: 4 to 12 years old (ages may vary by club)
Length: Typically 3 hours

Let your kids embark on an epic adventure. Kids will navigate relay races and thrilling challenges like “back-to-back” or “balloon caterpillar,” participate in science activities like fireworks in a jar or a baking soda experiment, and then unleash their creativity with kinetic sand or tissue paper drawing.

Game Zone

Ages: 4 to 12 years old (ages may vary by club)
Length: Typically 3 hours

Send your kids off for an evening of sports fun where they’ll play team games like “kickball hot potato” or “no hands kickball.” They’ll also do sports-themed art projects such as making a foam finger or suncatcher.

View your club’s schedule online or in the Life Time app to see the calendar of events and reserve your kid’s spot.

As we get into the craziness that tends to be the holiday season, it’s helpful for parents to have a few nights of kid-free time to tackle to-dos — whether that’s shopping for gifts, cleaning for guests, preparing to host a party, or simply taking a restful break from all the obligations.

The Life Time Kids team has planned a handful of Parents Night Out events in November and December for your kids to take part in themed fun — and so you can get that time to yourself.

“This time of year is busy enough for families,” says Shelly Forsberg, director of kids and aquatics at Life Time. “We’re here to make it easy for parents by providing an enjoyable place for their kids to spend time with other kids their age, and do this while parents can take advantage of some extra time to complete tasks or do something they enjoy.”

These are the events and themes taking place in November and December:

Calling all superheroes! You’ll want to get to Life Time in a flash for this super party. Youngsters will unite to develop their own catch phrases and secret identities and to “fight crime” — a.k.a., complete superhero training exercises and obstacles courses. They will play gym games such as “planet krypton” and “superhero tag,” and build their own secret fortress and craft stick superheroes.

Painting Party

Ages: 4 to 12 years old (ages may vary by club)

Drop Off & Shop: Winter Theme

Ages: 4 to 12 years old (ages may vary by club)
Length: Typically 3 hours

This event’s activities are centered around the elements of the season: Kids will make snowflake art and run around while playing “snowman tag” and frozen (or freeze) tag. For a STEAM project, kids will be challenged to build the tallest tower, while pre-K kiddos will complete an ice cube-counting activity.

Bonus: Parents can use this time as an opportunity to cross off items on their to-do list or make some headway on holiday shopping.

Drop Off & Shop: Cookie Theme

Ages: 4 to 12 years old (ages may vary by club)
Length: Typically 3 hours

This event is sure to be sweet: Kids will create hot cocoa and gingerbread house paper crafts. They’ll also run around in the gym playing “gingerbread man tag” and “gum drop dash.”

Pre-K kids will create a bridge for the gingerbread man, while school-aged kids will do a shopping bag STEAM challenge.

Pajama Jingle Jam

Ages: 4 to 12 years old (ages may vary by club)
Length: Typically 3 hours

Let your kids come cozy in their favorite pajamas. They’ll make jingle bell necklaces, play “reindeer tag” and “candy cane tag,” and work on engineering a snowflake.

The post How 5 Families Spend Time at Life Time in the Fall appeared first on Experience Life.

]]>
Fall is the season of getting back into routine for many, especially parents of school-aged children. No matter the age of your young ones, prioritizing healthy behaviors and activities in that routine is important, especially as schedules get busier.

We talked to a few parents who’ve got their routines down and are regularly making the most of their Life Time memberships to keep their kids — and themselves! — active and engaged with others. Here is how they spend their time at Life Time as a family.

Arica D. C.

Arica and her husband have two children, a 9-year-old daughter and a 6-year-old son. They are members at Life Time in Frisco, Texas.

How do you and your family spend time at Life Time?

The kids and I are regulars at the Martial Arts classes offered through the Kids Academy — they are amazing. This offering alone is worth the membership to our family.

We also enjoy going to the pool during school breaks when we aren’t traveling. It gives us a reason to leave the house. The kids enjoy being “treated” to lunch at the LifeCafe — it makes them feel grown up when we eat there.

My husband and I also enjoy dropping the kids off at Parents Night Out events. During that time, we often enjoy the whirlpool and play pickleball. Last year, our daughter was on the swim team, and it was so fun meeting families from different Life Time clubs in the area through that.

How does Life Time fit into your family’s weekly routine?

Transparently, I was a little skeptical about joining Life Time at first. I wasn’t sure the benefits would outweigh the membership cost. But after learning about all the offerings we’d have access to and be taking advantage of, it was a no-brainer.

Our kids have participated in gymnastics, swim lessons, martial arts, and so much more, all in the same place. I’m very glad our family is a part of Life Time — I even convinced my parents to join!

My husband is a faithful 5 a.m. GTX class attendee four days a week. I enjoy the Kettlebell Kombine class and recover with the Normatec sleeves and time on the Hydromassage bed every chance I get. Our son goes to Fitness & Agility classes, and loves being a part of any sport that is happening in the Kids Academy during gym games like dodgeball or basketball.

Our kids love going to School-Break Camps on the days they don’t have school and when my husband and I still have to work. I love how they’ve made friends at Life Time. It makes it so easy on us when we want to work out at the club and drop them off for some fun time in the Kids Academy.

Why is living a healthy way of life important to your family?

Living a healthy life is important as we had kids later in life, and my husband tells me his motivation for going to 5 a.m. GTX is because he wants to ensure he can walk our daughter down the aisle one day. He also enjoys the class, but I appreciate how being active is important in his life goals.

We want to be good role models for our kids, and the physical activities we choose to do as a family have a lasting impact. Together, we are an active family, and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

April F.

April and her husband have three children, a 9-year-old daughter, a 6-year-old daughter, and a 1-year-old son. They are members at Life Time in Vernon Hills, Ill.

How do you and your family spend time at Life Time?

Typically, we check the kids into the Kids Academy and then my husband and I will work out at the same time, either together or separately. We like taking classes, or if we do separate workouts, then we’ll most likely end our time walking next to each other on the treadmills or sitting together in the LifeCafe or by the pool. It’s literally a date we get every week.

And we absolutely adore the Kids Academy leader, Iwona Wawer. She’s a pillar in our lives and we cannot imagine raising our kids without her!

How does Life Time fit into your family’s weekly routine?

I go to Life Time six to seven times a week, and my husband goes around three times a week. But my kids go all the time. During the summer, my girls go to Life Time every day, and as we head into the fall, they’ll go to Life Time two to three nights a week. My youngest comes with me every single day.

My girls love going to Life Time Summer Camps and Parents Night Out events, and as we head into the fall, we’ll still utilize the Parents Night Out events as much as possible. Even though our youngest isn’t old enough to attend yet, it’s such a great outlet for the girls to have fun, eat pizza, and stay active.

The environment feels safe for dropping them off at. The team members are like family to us, especially because we don’t live near family here in Illinois. Life Time is our community and is our family away from home.

Why is living a healthy way of life important to your family?

My husband and I have been a part of Life Time since we got married in 2007, and all three of our children became members the day they turned 3 months old.

My kids are used to going to Life Time and when we step in the door, they’re off and running to their favorite activities. They love it. And my husband and I love to move and exercise. I often shower there too and take advantage of the locker rooms. I try and use every bit of my membership!

Derek B.

Derek and his wife have two children, a 5-year-old son and a 4-year-old daughter. They are members at Life Time in Beaverton, Ore.

How do you and your family spend time at Life Time?

We spend a lot of our family time at the outdoor pool: Our kids love the water slides and diving for toys. Our kids also love spending time at the Kids Academy doing tumbling and arts and crafts, learning Spanish, and participating in Fitness & Agility classes— they get really excited for all the programming at Life Time. And the way our club is designed, our son can see us playing pickleball while he is in the gym running drills during his Fitness & Agility class.

My wife is a big fan of the cold plunge and sauna combo after a barre or yoga class. I’m an avid Alpha attendee and love using the Olympic-lifting platforms. Both my wife and I spend five to eight hours a week on the pickleball courts and the kids are enrolled in swimming classes as well.

How does Life Time fit into your family’s weekly routine?

Heading into the fall, we use the evening programming for the kids while Lora and I play Open Play pickleball. We usually follow that up with a quick stop in the family locker room for showers before heading home for dinner and bed.

Why is living a healthy way of life important to your family?

You can never invest too much in your health. We love the benefits we get from Life Time for our mental, physical, and spiritual well-being. The community of people is so great and every time we are at the pool, we get to spend time with families and friends from school or our Life Time community. My wife and I quite frequently tell others about Life Time and how it’s changed our lives. We’d love to be members for life!

Hannah M.

Hannah and her husband have two children, a 2-year-old son and a 5-month-old daughter. They are members at Life Time in Chanhassen, Minn., and Life Time Crosstown in Eden Prairie, Minn.

How do you and your family spend time at Life Time?

Our family loves the variety of activities that we are able to do at Life Time — each day really could look different if we wanted it to. Our favorite things are playing tennis during the winter, swimming in the outdoor pool during the summer, and year-round, attending workout classes, enjoying the LifeSpa, and eating in the LifeCafe.

We are thankful for our membership and what it allows us to do as a family on the warm, sunny days of summer and the cold, snowy days of winter. There’s truly something for everyone in whatever stage of life we’re in, or whatever mood we’re in that day.

How does Life Time fit into your family’s weekly routine?

One huge perk of our membership has been receiving child care through the Kids Academy, which our kids truly enjoy going to. The team members have consistently been amazing; they’re fun, engaging, and well-trained.

While my kids are in the Kids Academy, I enjoy having the ability to get some work done in the LifeCafe, go to a workout class, utilize the LifeSpa, or slowly sip on a cup of coffee with a good book in hand.

Why is living a healthy way of life important to your family?

It’s important for us to find time to move our bodies, spend time as a family, eat healthy lunches, and take time to rest. Life Time truly offers us the ability to do all that and more!

Caroline S.

Caroline and her husband have three children, a 4-year-old son, a 2-year-old daughter, and a 6-month-old son. They are members at Life Time in Frisco, Texas.

How do you and your family spend time at Life Time?

My kids and I go to Life Time six days a week (excluding Sundays). I take Gluteus Maxout on Mondays and Fridays, SOL heated yoga on Wednesdays, and I swim laps on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.

My husband goes to Life Time four to five days a week depending on his work schedule, and he prefers to lift weights or do cardio. On the days he works remotely, he enjoys working in the LifeCafe. We always laugh that he’s showered more at the club than he ever has at our house.

My oldest son started going to Life Time when he was 1 year old, and our other two started going as soon as they turned 3 months old. This is truly their second home.

My 4-year-old takes classes and loves gymnastics and arts and crafts. My daughter has a new lease on life playing with the big kids in the kid’s gym. And my youngest just naps and looks cute with the other Life Time babies!

How does Life Time fit into your family’s weekly routine?

The time of year never impacts our schedule at Life Time. We go rain or shine, cold or hot. We are there every day by 9 a.m. which works during the school year too. I’ll drop my oldest son off for his scheduled day, then head straight to the club with the younger two.

I have received many facials from the LifeSpa while my kids are playing at the Kids Academy. When I was going through my last two pregnancies, there were many times I would drop off my kid(s) while I sat with my feet in the hot tub or just relaxed at the LifeSpa.

During the three-month period after my babies were born, I would continue to bring the other kids to play here every day, so they didn’t fall out of their routine. They loved playing with their best friends at Life Time while I would take care of my newborn in the LifeCafe.

Why is living a healthy way of life important to your family?

I can’t even imagine not living like this. I think being active has always been second nature for us. The time spent here every day helps me reset mentally, physically, and emotionally. I really feel like I’m a better mom and wife because of the time I spend taking care of myself at Life Time. In turn, my kids are growing up thinking this is just a way of life — like anything else we consistently do.

I’ve made some incredible friends at Life Time and the greatest blessing is our kids adore each other and their friends here, even though their friends range from ages 6 months to 10 years old. We hang in and out of the club with the other families now. It’s such a wonderful community.

During the school year, many families fall into a more structured — though fairly jam-packed! — routine. So, when school is out for a holiday break or other expected (or unexpected) closure, it can leave parents scrambling to figure out child care and/or entertainment for their kids.

Life Time’s School-Break Camps are a solution for those times of need. “We like to say, ‘when school is out, Life Time is in,’” says Tori Limmel, kids curriculum manager at Life Time. Parents can bring their kids to Life Time on no-school days to be cared for and entertained with healthy activities.

Limmel shared more about this offering with us.

Life Time Editorial | What makes Life Time School-Break Camps different from other programs?

Tori Limmel | We are really thoughtful about the activities we offer during School-Break Camp days. We strive to keep kids active all day and plan various hands-on activities designed to spark campers’ interests and make the day away from school fun.

Children are given the opportunity to play and interact with others their own age and participate in activities that encourage building social skills and developing friendships. An important note is that there is no screen time — we encourage kids to be actively engaging with others throughout the day.

Life Time is also unique in the fact that we add camps throughout the year based on unexpected school closures (availability may vary by club), so we are able support families in times when parents are unable to plan ahead for child care.

LTE | Who can register for School-Break Camps at Life Time?

TL | We welcome all our junior Life Time members, which includes kids ages 5 to 13 years old (depending on the club, some start at age 4), to join us for School-Break Camps.

For planned school breaks, registration opens nine months in advance. All membership types can register at the same time. For last-minute school-closure days, you can register that same day. Parents may register their child for a half- or a full-day of care.

Camps may be limited in space and number of registrants due to specific state licenses and building capacities.

LTE | What holidays and other days are School-Break Camps offered?

TL | Exact dates School-Break Camps vary by club location and corresponding school districts. However, most clubs offer camps for winter break, spring break, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and President’s Day. Thanksgiving and other holiday camps are often offered but dependent on the specific club’s schedule.

School-Break Camps are also added to the schedule on additional days based on individual school district closures.

Check with your club for details on their specific School-Break Camp offerings.

LTE | What types of activities will my child engage in at School-Break Camps?

TL | Kids will participate in activities such as swimming, rock climbing, gym games, S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, arts, math), team building, and arts and crafts. Swimming will involve swimming activities, but unlike Summer Camp, swim lessons are not offered during School-Break Camps.

LTE | What does a typical day look like for a school-break Camper?

TL | Each day, camps begin at 9 a.m. and end by 4 p.m., with optional before-camp and after-camp care. Before-camp care is from 7 to 9 a.m. and after-camp care is from 4 to 6 p.m.

Children can attend a half-day or a full-day of camp, depending on the families’ need. The half-day morning session is from 9 a.m. to noon, with additional, optional before care from 7 to 9 a.m. (Some clubs may offer this only from 8 to 9 a.m.) The half-day afternoon session is from 1 to 4 p.m., with additional, optional after care from 4 to 6 p.m. While lunch isn’t scheduled during half-day options, a nutritious snack is served.

The exact schedule and activities vary based on club locations, but this example schedule gives you an idea of what a School-Break Camp could look like for your child.
